‘Presence and Absence’ Art Exhibition

January 6 – March 29, 2024

Join us for a special pop-up show in our new Studio Spotlight space featuring the talented Frank Eber. The show will feature a variety of Frank’s work that explores nature’s transitions in painting.

According to the dictionary, transitions are ‘the change from one form, state, style, or place to another’.

In painting we call them edges. The human eye sees things separated and at first glance they sure seem to be.

When we think of a tree in a field, the tree seems to be its own ‘being’ and it certainly has a real presence.
But what seems like a separate tree is, upon closer inspection connected to everything around it. The canopy looks solid from a distance but is in fact made of branches, twigs and single leaves. The tree emits (02) oxygen into the sky. The roots grow deep into the ground. Does the tree create the sky? Does the earth create the tree?
Car tires are both on the car and on the road, that’s why we have to buy new ones every now and then.
The person in the swimming pool seems to be there and not there at the same time.

Everything has a presence and an absence because that is the transient nature of life. Nothing lasts, everything is connected and constantly changing.

In my paintings I aim to paint this state.
